In this article, we’re going to show you how to enable and disable subtitles on Disney+ and customize their appearance.

How to Enable or Disable Subtitles on Disney+

Whether you watch Disney+ on your computer, TV, mobile, or other device, you can enable subtitles. This setting is applied per profile and persistent across all your devices; enable subtitles on your phone and they’ll also show on your TV.

You don’t need to download the subtitles—they come part and parcel of the Disney+ experience.

In most cases, subtitles are available in a range of languages. This depends on the movie/show and your country. If a language you want isn’t available, try changing the Disney+ app language first. If you’re still unable to find the language, it’s either not available in that country either or doesn’t exist at all.

To enable or disable subtitles:

Start playing something and pause the video. Select the rectangle subtitles icon in the corner; it’s likely in the top-right or bottom-right. Alternatively, on Roku, press * on your remote; on Apple TV, swipe down on your remote. Depending on your device, you might need to select Subtitles. Choose your subtitle language. Alternatively, to disable subtitles, select Off. Depending on your device, you might need to press back or the cross icon to close the subtitles menu.

How to Change Subtitle Appearance on Disney+

You can also change the appearance of the subtitles. To do this from the web, remain on the subtitles menu and select the cog icon. For smart TVs, switch to the Subtitle Styling tab.

Never Miss a Moment of Disney+

Now you know how to enable subtitles on Disney+, how to customize their appearance, and how to get rid of them. Chances are you’ll want to keep them on, especially since the sound mixing on many modern movies keeps getting worse.
