How to Use iCloud to Transfer Contacts

The easiest way to move your contacts from one phone to another is to export your iPhone contacts to your iCloud account and then use a special contact list downloader on your Android to retrieve those contact entries on your new phone.

To upload iPhone contacts to iCloud:

On the iPhone, open Settings. Tap your name, then choose iCloud. Turn on the Contacts toggle to back up your contacts list to your iCloud account. If the toggle is on, your contacts are backed up. Transfer iPhone Contacts to Android With Apps

iCloud is built into the iPhone, but it’s not the only cloud service capable of transferring contacts. My Contacts Backup is a contact transfer app that sends your iPhone address book to your email as a VCF file.

Install My Contacts Backup on the iPhone. On the iPhone, tap Backup. Before you export your contacts, go to Settings and choose which fields in the address book to export. Options include the phone number, email, URL, and address. Tap Email. Send the contact list backup to yourself or another email address that you have access to on the Android phone. From the Android device, open the message and select the Download icon for the VCF file. In the Open with dialog box, choose Contacts. When prompted to confirm the import of the iPhone contacts to the Android phone, select OK. The contact list appears in your Android contacts.

Other cloud services that you can use to transfer contacts from one device to another include Google Contacts and Yahoo Contacts. These tools and similar ones live online and sync contacts to any compatible device, including iPhones and Androids.

Can’t You Use a SIM Card?

With some phones, you can back up contacts and other data to the SIM card, put the SIM into the new phone, then import the data.

Unfortunately, that’s not possible with an iPhone because iOS doesn’t support storing data on the SIM card.
